What is respite care?

Respite care is temporary care offered to older people when their regular carer is unavailable or needs additional support. Whether your loved one is recovering from surgery, an illness or an accident, or if you need a break to refresh and recharge, a short stay in a St Joseph’s rest home care home could be the solution. A respite stay is also a great way to find out all you need to know about living in a care home per-manently, a ‘try before you buy’! We offer respite stays from 2 weeks onwards.

We can work with you to tailor the requirements of the stay - whether it's an urgent request or a visit you'd like to plan.

What does respite care include?

A respite stay is no different to a permanent stay. Our short-stay residents will bene-fit from the following:

  • Assessment of the needs and preferences of the person staying
  • Physical, mental and emotional support delivered as part of the care plan
  • A comfortable private room, fully-furnished, with a shower/bathroom
  • A wide variety of activities and events that align with their interests
  • Nutritious meals and snacks, tailored to their dietary requirements

What does respite care include?

Respite care has clear benefits for both carers and older adults with care needs.

A carer's own mental or physical health relies on sufficient time for work, hobbies and relationships. They may also need a holiday to relax from the strain that long-term care responsibilities can bring.

Equally, a person receiving care can benefit from a change of scenery, both physi-cally and mentally, as well as any additional medical care that they may need.

It's also a chance for them to meet new people, take part in different activities or learn something new.

Starting a conversation about care is never easy. We can help. Every St Joseph’s rest home care home has a Home Admissions Advisor with experience to help you approach this difficult subject.
